Post Editors and Other World News

Boy ! Am i delighted to find the old blogger dashboard ! Have been trying for over a week to post, using their "updated" version of the post editor, but when the link was clicked, only a blank screen showed up. No post editor.
So! The "good" news is i finally found the old editor.
The "bad" news is they say they are discontinuing it soon . . . .

Normally, i use a laptop (Thinkpad PC). And i am quite pleased with it, for it functions exactly as it should. And, much to my delight, it has a built-in, web-page translator.
So!
I can read all the world newspapers! French, Swedish (they have a most interesting format, huge headlines), India's papers, Japanese and Chinese (which have amazing graphics).
Now my PC is a fairly old model (in this day n age, anything over 4-years-old is obsolete) ! But still, it has a webpage translator.
Recently, one of my sons gifted me with a brand new Apple Ipad. WOW !!! What a delightful gift ! And i really am tickled with it for it's quite magical !
However . . .
I've come to the conclusion, that Apple wants us to remain "dumb" (ignorant) Americans who focus primarily on "buying stuff" and/or taking pictures (the Ipad has wonderful built-in photography apps) . . . .

Yep !!! You guessed it. No webpage translator. Bummer.

I hurried to the Itune's Apple Store online to download one, but they charge $9.99 for what on a PC is a free app ! (By the way, the new Bing translator does a better translating job than the old Microsoft Live Search.)
And no. I didn't buy one. I'm much too frugal to pay ten-bucks for a free app!
So OK. Enough, already yet, of the moanin n groanin, cryin n weepin about Apple's delinquency in providing us the tools to be well informed international citizens.
Here's what i was trying so hard to share last week:

French newspapers this past week, have focused on politics; German papers on the economy; Chinese newspapers are highlighting the tension caused by the proposed US import tax on their solar panels; the Japanese papers are questioning the tension caused by Putin and Obama's avoidance of each other's G8 meetings; British news is about the new Scottish electronics which develop underwater currents to electricity; Swedish newspapers are paying a lot of attention to sports and the Cannes festival;

but what i found extremely interesting is an article in the Times of India.

Apparently, schools there (India) illustrate dull subjects in their
textbooks with cartoons !!! School authorities claim that humor aids the mind in remembering dull facts. ( For the life of me, i can't remember our American text books illustrated with cartoons ! Pictures - yes. But humorous cartoons? Wouldn't that have been fun !!! )

And the question is: do American grade schools and high schools illustrate our text books with cartoons? Did i miss some important factor in my education? Or were cartoons, just plainly, not there ???

Anyhooo, folks in India are pretty upset that the MP's are insisting that the cartoons be removed from all text books.
Another case of politics interfering with education ???

Happy international newspaper reading to you folks. And if you have an Apple Mac, switch to a PC !!!
